US Releases 2025 Visa Waiver Programme List, Excludes African Countries

The United States has published the list of countries eligible for the 2025 Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), introducing key updates to its travel policies. While the United Kingdom has been excluded from general eligibility, it remains eligible under specific conditions. Notably, no African country, including Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, has been included in the programme.

With global mobility and diplomatic considerations playing a key role in US immigration policies, the updated VWP list continues to reflect strategic decisions based on security, economic ties, and international relations.

A major update in the 2025 VWP list is the inclusion of Romania, a move seen as part of the US government's broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance border security cooperation.

The VWP is designed to simplify travel procedures for citizens of participating countries, allowing them to visit the US for up to 90 days for tourism, business, or transit without needing a visa. However, travelers must still obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval before departure

According to the US Bureau of Consular Affairs, the programme aims to facilitate easier entry for millions of travelers while maintaining strict security measures. Although the number of eligible countries remains at 40, the exclusion of African nations has drawn attention, as many had hoped for expanded access to the programme.
