Jonny Baxter, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, has expressed strong support for Moniepoint’s upcoming launch of payment solutions designed specifically for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.

Speaking during a visit to the fintech’s UK office, Baxter described the initiative as a significant move to strengthen economic ties and engagement with the diaspora community.

He emphasized the vital role Nigerians in the UK play in driving economic exchange through remittances, entrepreneurship, and investment. “The diaspora is a major force for growth. Seeing African companies like Moniepoint create tools that serve both local and global needs is encouraging,” Baxter said.

Moniepoint, a leading African fintech firm, currently processes over a billion transactions each month and serves more than 10 million users across the continent. Its planned UK expansion is seen as a strategic effort to bridge financial gaps for Nigerians abroad while promoting cross-border collaboration.

The move also aligns with the recently signed Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP) between the UK and Nigeria, which aims to deepen bilateral trade and investment. Moniepoint’s growth into the UK market reflects that vision, bringing innovative financial services to a global stage.

British International Investment, which holds a stake in Moniepoint, continues to support the company’s efforts to expand its reach and impact.
