Segun Adeyina is a distinguished public servant and a proud member of the Nigerian diaspora. With a deep desire to serve through leadership and advocacy, he strives to create meaningful impact and ensure that the voice of the Nigerian diaspora is heard. Adeyina was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2022, representing District 110, which encompasses portions of Gwinnett County.
His first tenure will conclude on January 13, 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, Adeyina ran for re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives to continue serving District 110. He secured victory in the general election held on November 5, 2024.
Adeyina's educational and professional background, rooted in engineering and information technology, has been the cornerstone of his success in both public service and the private sector.
He graduated from Federal Government College Ilorin in 1986 and earned a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Lagos in 1988. Additionally, he holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Akron in Ohio and a master’s degree in management information systems from Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. As a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Adeyina boasts of an impressive career spanning over 30 years in IT program and project management, working with Fortune 500 companies such as General Motors, Cisco Systems, and Hewlett-Packard/Capgemini.
A passionate educator, Adeyina served as an adjunct faculty member for 14 years, teaching IT and project management at institutions such as the University of Phoenix and Wayne County Community College District. His commitment to education extended into his political career, including a 2020 run for the Gwinnett County School Board, where he championed equity and resources for public schools.
While in office Adeyina voted for fully funded public schools and increased funding by 50,000 dollars for school security, he also advocated for protecting the reproductive rights of women and voted to provide income and property Tax relief for Gwinnett residents.
As the executive director of the Nigerian American Public Advisory Committee U.S.A., Adeyina promotes voter education and civic engagement, particularly within immigrant communities. He is also actively involved in organizations like the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas, the Gwinnett NAACP, and the Global African Business Association. His advocacy and leadership have earned him numerous honors, including the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and the Dr. Martin Luther King Drum Major Award.
A devoted family man, Segun Adeyina resides in Grayson, Georgia, with his wife, Kofo, and their three children. Through his work, he bridges communities, connects the Nigerian diaspora to opportunities for growth, and fosters inclusive progress in Georgia and beyond.
