As the world marks World Health Day, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to women’s health by donating N1 billion through her Renewed Hope Initiative to the National Cancer Fund, targeting the elimination of cervical cancer in the country.
The First Lady made the announcement while receiving the National Taskforce on Cervical Cancer Elimination, led by Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, at the State House. She urged Nigerians, especially women, to speak up and seek medical help without shame.
Dr. Salako commended the First Lady for her influential role in supporting the introduction of the HPV vaccine into Nigeria’s routine immunisation schedule, which has already reached 12 million girls aged 9–13. The ministry aims to immunise additional 6 million girls this year.

Former Health Minister and Chair of the Taskforce, Prof. Isaac Adewole, praised Tinubu’s political will and called for her continued involvement in the campaign, which is set to reach 24 states over two years.
WHO Country Representative, Dr. Walter Mulombo, also urged the First Lady to lead advocacy efforts, emphasizing that “every child and woman has a right to live.”
The meeting coincided with the 2025 World Health Day commemoration, during which the First Lady received souvenirs from the World Health Organization in recognition of her support.
