The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan on her appointment as the Head Coach of the George Washington Revolutionaries Women’s Basketball team in the United States.

Dabiri-Erewa described the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigeria and the African diaspora, praising Adeduntan’s remarkable coaching record and dedication to excellence.

“We are immensely proud of Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan for this groundbreaking accomplishment. Her leadership, resilience, and passion for basketball have set a new standard for Nigerian excellence on the global stage. She embodies the spirit of hard work and determination, and her success is an inspiration to young Nigerian women aspiring to break barriers in sports and beyond,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.

She further emphasized NiDCOM’s commitment to celebrating outstanding Nigerians making waves globally and expressed confidence in Adeduntan’s ability to lead the George Washington University (GWU) program to new heights.

Adeduntan’s appointment follows an impressive tenure at Colgate University, where she led the team to back-to-back 20-win seasons and a Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) appearance in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Her return to GWU, where she previously served as an assistant coach, marks a homecoming to a program she helped build.

Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, Adeduntan’s journey from her hometown to becoming a prominent figure in American college basketball is a testament to the resilience and talent of Nigerians in the diaspora. Beyond her achievements in basketball, she also holds a PhD in Nursing.

She is the daughter of Prince (Dr) Azeez Adeduntan, a Harvard-trained cardiovascular surgeon, former Commissioner of Health in Oyo State, and a governorship candidate.

NiDCOM reaffirmed its dedication to recognizing and supporting Nigerians like Adeduntan, who continue to excel on the global stage.
