The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with key stakeholders, has received the second batch of Nigerian returnees from Niger at the Immigration Training School on Airport Road, Kano.
The agency disclosed this on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, noting that the returnees, totaling 392 individuals, arrived at approximately 3:05 PM. Upon arrival, they were profiled and registered to ensure proper documentation and access to essential support services.
The group comprised 176 adult males, 122 adult females, and 94 children, including 78 boys and 16 girls.
The event saw active participation from various partners, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Immigration Services, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
This development comes after NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office received 148 returnees from the Niger Republic in November. That earlier group included 120 adult males, nine adult females, 10 male children, seven female children, and two infants.
Both repatriation efforts were facilitated by the International Organization for Migration Mission in Niger, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing migration and displacement challenges.
NEMA has reiterated its commitment to providing comprehensive support to returnees as part of efforts to reintegrate them into society.
