Moro Ojomo Credits Nigerian Roots for Super Bowl Triumph

Nigerian-American football star Moro Ojomo has attributed his success in the NFL to his Nigerian upbringing and deep connection to his heritage. Speaking to journalists upon his arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Ojomo emphasized that his drive and motivation stem from his Nigerian background.

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman made history on February 9, 2025, leading his team to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 win in Super Bowl LIX—securing the Eagles’ fifth NFL championship.

Reflecting on his journey, Ojomo highlighted the role of Nigerian values such as hard work, resilience, and education in shaping his career. He also acknowledged the growing presence of Nigerians in American football, stressing the sport’s potential as a pathway to education and global recognition for young Africans.

“I think about the community, the friends I grew up with, the heritage, and my family values of being a Nigerian—such as hard work, education, and sports,” he said. “I played a little bit of soccer and basketball, but American football was what led me to the most success.”

Ojomo further encouraged young Nigerians to chase their dreams, adding, “Believe in yourself, take advantage of opportunities, and don’t let anyone discourage you. Nigerians are great, and we can achieve anything we set our minds to.”

Now a Super Bowl champion, Ojomo hopes to inspire the next generation of Nigerian athletes to pursue their ambitions fearlessly, using sports as a platform for both personal and national success.
