In an unprecedented move, Nigeria is gearing up to host a historic homecoming event for the African Diaspora Sixth Region, promising to be a monumental celebration. Prof. Chidiebere Anelechi Ogbu, President of the African Diaspora Union (AFRIDU), has rallied the Nigerian government for this groundbreaking occasion. The call for collaboration came during a high-profile meeting with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), led by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, in Abuja.
Describing the event as an unparalleled opportunity, Ogbu emphasized that it would welcome black people worldwide to reconnect with Nigeria and other states they believe to be their ancestral homes, thanks to DNA technology.
"This will be a massive, trending event, echoing the legacy of FESTAC 77, and will spark a monumental movement of African Diaspora experts, investors, professionals, scientists, entertainers, academics, and diverse skilled individuals to Nigeria," he stated.
Highlighting the potential for a favorable investment climate, Ogbu underscored the strategic importance of this event for attracting African Descendants Investors. He also proposed that Nigeria grant a citizenship waiver for the descendants of Trans Atlantic Slave Trade victims, aligning with reparative justice.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa responded with palpable excitement and optimism, affirming the Nigerian government's commitment to making this summit a reality.
She assured the delegation of Nigeria's readiness to collaborate closely, addressing concerns and leveraging the diaspora's skills and expertise for national development.
Dabiri-Erewa praised AFRIDU for its visionary initiative, seeing the event as a powerful platform for networking, cultural exchange, and addressing key issues affecting the African diaspora community.
"This is a golden opportunity to celebrate our shared heritage, strengthen ties between the diaspora, African Descendants of Nigerian origin, and their motherland, fostering unity, collaboration, and progress among Africans worldwide," she expressed.
The NiDCOM head guaranteed the government's dedication to creating an environment where Nigerians abroad can thrive and significantly contribute to national growth, acknowledging their vital role in Nigeria's progress.
The meeting saw attendance from distinguished personalities, including His Eminence King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Prof. (Sen.) Oserheimen Osunbor, Dr. Moriel McClerlin, President of Southland Care Coordination Partners, and Hon. Halims Agoda, among others.
