Governor Diri Urges Ijaw Diaspora to Drive Development in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has called on Ijaw entrepreneurs and professionals in the diaspora to partner with the state government in advancing the development of their homeland. In his New Year broadcast on Wednesday, Diri emphasized the state’s readiness to welcome investments and collaborations from across the globe.

The governor highlighted Bayelsa as Nigeria’s only homogenous Ijaw state, offering a secure and hospitable environment for growth. “I extend a warm invitation to our Ijaw brothers and sisters in the diaspora to redirect their focus towards their ancestral homeland,” Diri said.

He noted the state's achievements despite economic challenges, citing progress in infrastructure, housing, agriculture, and power supply. Among the administration’s key projects is the launch of “The Prosperity Estates,” a housing initiative aimed at providing 1,000 affordable homes across the state capital and local government areas.

In agriculture, Diri highlighted a partnership with South Korea that has already yielded state-of-the-art rice mills and modern training for farmers as part of the state’s “Produce and Consume” initiative.

On security, he announced plans to install new CCTV systems and refurbish existing ones to maintain Bayelsa’s status as one of the safest states in Nigeria. He also pledged further investments in education, healthcare, and sports, including constructing an ultra-modern stadium in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri expressed optimism for 2025, calling for collaboration with the diaspora to unlock Bayelsa’s immense potential. “We eagerly anticipate opportunities to work with our brethren to build a better, brighter, and greater future for our state,” he concluded.
