The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a nationwide crackdown on irregular migrants starting August 1, 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aims to enhance immigration control and ensure compliance with national regulations.
Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Tunji-Ojo revealed that a three-month grace period will be granted from May 1 to July 31. During this period, irregular migrants will have the opportunity to regularize their status under an immigration amnesty program.
"We are implementing a new Expatriate Administration System to streamline immigration processes," Tunji-Ojo stated. "This amnesty will provide a window for individuals and businesses to comply with the law before enforcement begins."

The minister also issued a stern warning to companies obstructing immigration officers from carrying out their duties. "The era of companies evading immigration laws is over. The Nigeria Immigration Service must be allowed to perform its responsibilities, and any organization found hindering enforcement efforts will face strict penalties," he emphasized.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo addressed the issue of immigration service fees, noting that the government has reviewed and adjusted charges for certain citizenship and business-related applications. The revised fee structure will take effect from May 1, alongside the new administrative system.
"The final breakdown of these adjustments has been negotiated and agreed upon with NECA," he said.
The government is urging all affected individuals to take advantage of the grace period to ensure compliance before the strict enforcement phase begins on August 1.
