Diaspora Group Mourns Funfair Tragedy, Praises Makinde.

The Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora (OID), a professional group, has expressed condolences to the Oyo State Government and families of victims affected by the tragic stampede at a Christmas funfair in Ibadan, which reportedly claimed the lives of over 30 children.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Barrister Ayotomiwa Adebayo, OID described the incident as “unfortunate and completely avoidable.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic outcome of an event meant to bring joy to children, which instead turned into a heartbreaking disaster,” the group stated.

OID commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his swift intervention and the efforts of rescue agencies in managing the aftermath of the tragedy.

“Governor Makinde’s decision to cancel his birthday celebration in honor of the victims and his compassionate leadership in prioritizing the welfare of the citizens during this difficult time is highly commendable. We stand with the Governor and the people of Oyo State in mourning this painful loss.”

The group extended its prayers to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“May the souls of the departed children rest in peace, and may their families find the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
