Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has congratulated Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi on his historic election as the President of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
In a statement released by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa hailed Ogunyemi’s achievement as a groundbreaking milestone. She noted that Ogunyemi is the first Black individual to hold this prestigious position in the CMA's 158-year history.
Describing the achievement as a testament to dedication, resilience, and determination, Dabiri-Erewa encouraged Ogunyemi to continue excelling and bringing pride to Nigeria. She also urged other Nigerians in the diaspora to strive for excellence in their respective fields.
Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, a Nigerian-born dermatologist based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, emerged victorious after a rigorous election process spanning several days. As CMA President, Ogunyemi will represent the association in dealings with the media, provincial and territorial medical associations, government entities, and other related organizations across Canada.
Before officially assuming office, Ogunyemi will serve as President-elect pending final approval by the CMA General Council in May 2025.
This achievement underscores the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora to global leadership and innovation in various fields.
