The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has applauded the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) for its unwavering dedication to enhancing healthcare in Nigeria, as the group commemorates its 30th anniversary with a major medical outreach in Lagos and Oyo States.

During the outreach in Lagos, Dabiri-Erewa hailed ANPA’s consistency and impact over the years, calling it a model of true patriotism. “Even in America, around 70% of Black doctors are Nigerians. Through ANPA’s efforts, we believe medical tourism out of Nigeria can significantly reduce,” she said.

The medical mission served over 3,000 residents of the Ikate community in Lagos, offering free screenings and treatment for hypertension, diabetes, cancer, gynecological issues, and more. Over 350 surgical procedures were carried out, including 150+ eye surgeries and complex cases such as hernia and gallbladder removals. ANPA also trained more than 250 local physicians to build long-term capacity.

“This mission is not just about short-term relief but sustainable development through training and empowerment,” Dabiri-Erewa added.

ANPA President, Dr. Cliff Eke, said the mission reflects the association’s desire to give back to Nigeria while pushing for healthcare reforms and stronger medical infrastructure.

Dr. Lanre Jimoh, ANPA’s National Treasurer, revealed plans to establish a multi-specialty hospital in Nigeria to ensure continuity of care and training. “It’s not just a visit—it’s a commitment to long-term impact,” he stated.

NiDCOM reaffirmed its support for ANPA and similar diaspora-led initiatives, emphasizing the vital role of Nigerians abroad in national development
