Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has commended Nigerian community leaders in Ontario, Canada, for their initiative in establishing the Nigerian Immigrants Welcome Centre.

Described as the first of its kind, the Welcome Centre is designed to support both new and existing Nigerian migrants in settling effectively into Canadian society. The facility is expected to be launched on April 12, 2025.

Dabiri-Erewa hailed the initiative as a significant step toward community-led diaspora support, urging other Nigerian communities across the globe to emulate the Ontario model. She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s readiness to partner with diaspora organizations that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians abroad.

Mr. Uche Okugo, President of the Network of Nigerians in Canada (NNC), stated that the Centre will offer tailored services to help Nigerian immigrants navigate their new environment and contribute meaningfully to their host community.

Dr. Olufemi Adegun, Head of the Planning Committee for the Welcome Centre, explained that the project was born out of pressing challenges faced by Nigerian migrants, including resettlement issues, housing difficulties, and the increasing refugee situation in Canada

The Centre is expected to provide a range of services, including career mentoring, job placement, settlement support, language coaching, empowerment programs, and food bank assistance.
