The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, recently hosted Dr. Toks Omishakin, a Nigerian-born American and the Secretary of Transportation for the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA). Dr. Omishakin was accompanied by a delegation from California during his visit to Nigeria.
The delegation's mission focused on fostering stronger partnerships between Nigeria and California in areas such as infrastructural development, economic growth, and knowledge and skills transfer. Dr. Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the critical role of skills development and knowledge exchange in driving sustainable economic growth.
“This initiative aligns perfectly with President Tinubu's vision of transforming Nigeria into a trillion-dollar economy,” Dr. Dabiri-Erewa said, commending Dr. Omishakin for his contributions to both nations. She highlighted his achievements as a testament to the excellence of Nigerians in the diaspora.
As part of the visit, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa facilitated meetings between the California delegation and key Nigerian officials. The group met with Senator Sa'idu Ahmed Alkali, Nigeria's Minister of Transportation, and Mr. Charles Odii, the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
These meetings focused on future collaborations aimed at enhancing transportation infrastructure and empowering small and medium enterprises in Nigeria.
The visit underscores the growing potential for partnerships between Nigeria and its diaspora community to drive national development and international cooperation.
