Anthony Joshua Visits President Tinubu in Lagos on New Year’s Day

Two-time heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence on New Year’s Day.

The visit, which highlighted the connection between sports and leadership, was documented in a post on the official Presidency X (formerly Twitter) handle. During the meeting, Anthony Joshua presented President Tinubu with an autographed boxing glove inscribed with the words: “To the Great Asiwaju Jagaban Borgu of Africa, Bola A Tinubu.”

The Presidency's post included photos of the exchange and read:

"President Bola Tinubu receiving an autographed glove from former World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua, when he visited the President at his residence in Lagos. January 1, 2025."

This meeting further underscores the heavyweight champion’s growing involvement with Nigeria’s leadership and his commitment to his roots.

Earlier, on December 30, Anthony Joshua visited Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. During the visit, Governor Abiodun announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in recognition of the boxing legend's contributions to the sport.

Additionally, the governor disclosed that Joshua would play a key role in lighting the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, which has been rescheduled for May 2025.

The visits reflect Anthony Joshua’s enduring pride in his Nigerian heritage and his efforts to inspire and promote sports development in the country.
